This is what my pumpkin-loving monster phase looks like.
| | The Most Scrumptious Cream Cheese Pumpkin Cake Roll | | | I write this with the kind of love-hate energy that I typically reserve for "The Great British Bake Off" judge Paul Hollywood: it is officially the start of Pumpkin Spice Season. According to Starbucks, the season probably started back in mid-August, but I refuse to be led through the metaphorical pumpkin patch by corporate America while it's still solidly shorts weather. I bemoan the PSL and all the forced autumnal-themed everything in late summer. However, with the fall of even a single, amber-colored leaf to the ground, I transform, Jekyll and Hyde-style, into a pumpkin-loving monster. The season is upon us. It's time for breakfasts of fluffy pumpkin pancakes or (and?) pumpkin spiced waffles. Time for Saturday afternoons spent baking cupcakes and binging the newest season of "The Great British Baking Show." Crafting this pumpkin roll will make me feel like a Bakes' contestant waiting for the handshake from Paul, while these soft pumpkin cookies with brown butter icing will have me licking the bowl. And when I'm feeling a little less ambitious, these pumpkin spice snickerdoodles are a snap to make, and taste even better when sandwiched with cinnamon ice cream for dessert. Come the weekdays, a pumpkin spice scone with a dollop of clotted cream and my afternoon cup of Earl Grey tea is the perfect workday afternoon snack. It's a little taste of London in the fall by way of my Brooklyn apartment. And speaking of work, happy hour in autumn means pouring a cold, crisp pumpkin beer (Rogue brewery happens to craft my favorite). Or, when something stronger is in order, this Butternut Old Fashioned, which relies on the other gourd du jour—the butternut squash—to impart a fall harvest touch to this classic cocktail. | | | | | | All Pumpkin Spice Everything | | | | | | | Pumpkin Pancakes | These are everything and more on days when I wake up with sweet cravings. | | | | | | | | | The Spruce Eats on YouTube | | | | | | | | | | | | Follow us: | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to The Spruce Eats newsletter.
