Cleaning your closet doesn't have to be scary.
| | | | | If there's one area of the home we've all avoided cleaning at some point or another, it's the closet. Let's face it: closets can get pretty scary. But when your closet is clean, tidy, and organized, it's easy to find what you need. By spending just 15 minutes organizing your closet once a week, you'll save so much time getting ready every day. Plus, doing so will make larger-scale cleanups and reorganizing endeavors a lot easier. | | | | | | | • | A catch-all bin or basket | • | A hamper | | | | | | | | | The 15-Minute Closet Clean-Up | Follow these steps for the most efficient use of your time! | | | | Separate Clean & Dirty Clothes | | Head to the closet and grab any empty hangers. Put them aside in a pile or somewhere that will be easy to reach once you get going. | | | Collect any items that don't belong in your closet and put them in the catch-all bin to be distributed to their rightful places later. | | | Hang up or fold any clothing that's strewn across the bedroom and doesn't need to be laundered. Put dirty clothing in the hamper. | | | Organize Clothing Into Groups | | Start with your hanging clothes and make sure similar items are hung together (pants with pants, button-down shirts with button-down shirts, skirts with skirts, etc.). | | | Re-arrange hanging pieces until everything is hung together the way you like it. For instance, if you want to have everything color-coded keep going until all of your navy blues are lined up. If you prefer to sort items by function (work, play, etc.), do so. | | | Next, address the folded clothes in your closet like sweaters and long-sleeve shirts. There's no need to re-fold everything (unless it's a total disaster in there)—just straighten the stacks. If you continually notice that your neatly folded stacks of sweaters and moving out of place, consider some shelf dividers. | | | Line up shoes, storage boxes, luggage—whatever you have on the bottom of your closet. Make sure nothing has fallen that should be hanging or folded on a shelf. | | | Final Steps | | Next, spend two to three minutes picking out your clothes for the next three days. This will make your life infinitely easier! This process will take only a few minutes since you've just eyed the majority of your wardrobe, and it will save you about 30 minutes over the next three mornings. You can hang the next day's outfit up on a valet hook. | | | Finally, take the bin of items that belong outside the bedroom and return everything to its proper storage space. | | | | If You Want a Deeper Clean : | | | | | | | | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to The Spruce Up.
