REI's Anniversary Sale is the Official Summer Kick-Off We've Been Waiting For
Growing up in the Midwest, it never truly felt like summer until the end of May. School was finally out for the summer. Trees were in full bloom. It officially wouldn't snow again until at least October or November. All the good things.

And all the outdoor and travel gear would go on sale. Nowadays, the best and biggest sale is probably REI's Anniversary Sale. Each year at the end of May, REI celebrates its birthday by putting a ton of gear on sale. Unlike some of its members-only sales throughout the year, this one is for everyone. This year's sale kicks off on May 20th and runs through May 30th.

We took the time to peruse this year's sale and put together a list of items we think are particularly good deals. Here are a few that stand out to us.
  • NEMO Aurora Highrise 6P Tent: NEMO is one of our favorite outdoor gear brands. They make a ton of quality products, including its Aurora Highrise tent line. If you're looking for a new family tent (or you're a duo that likes a ton of space), we highly recommend the six-person Aurora Highrise, which will be around $375 (usually $500). It's lightweight for a tent of its size, incredibly durable, and has large doors and vestibules for easy entry and exit and more gear storage.
  • Eureka! Ignite 2-Burner Camp Stove: I tend to nerd out over camp stoves. (Sorry, I'm not sorry.) And despite newfangled camp stoves continually hitting the market, the Ignite 2-Burner remains my go-to for car camping culinary escapades. Two burners with different knobs help you control the heat. And three walls help block the wind. Most importantly? I've been using this stove for almost a decade now and have had zero issues with it breaking or continuing to start.
  • REI Co-op Roadtripper 60 Duffel: Once the sale begins on Friday, this duffel will be around $33. If a 60-liter duffel for under $50 isn't enough for you, consider it's made from rugged recycled polyester and is bluesign-certified. So not only is this probably the highest-quality duffel for its price, but it might also be the most planet-friendly.
Use our list as a starter, but dig around as hundreds of quality items are going on sale. Pro tip: If you've been considering becoming an REI member, this is a good time as a few purchases will likely offset the one-time $30 membership fee, which gets you in the club for life. Happy official kick-off to summer, you all!

Why It's Good to Fight in a Relationship

No matter how much you love your partner, the fact remains that you are two different people and may interpret situations in ways that lead to squabbles. While it's hardly ever enjoyable to spend time hashing out an argument, here's how these fights may strengthen the bond you and your partner share.

Getting Abortion Pills Online

Increasingly restrictive state laws are creating mutliple barriers to abortion care access.

Mail-Order Abortion Access Transcends State Lines
Increasingly restrictive state laws are creating mutliple barriers to abortion care access. Telehealth companies—like Hey Jane, Choix, and Plan C—are making it easier to access medication abortion online. Those seeking abortion care can receive a virtual consultation from a health provider, who will prescribe the medication and have it mailed directly to the patient.

While most companies don't service states where mail-order abortion is outlawed, some international organizations will send the medication to people in the U.S. from overseas pharmacies regardless of state regulations.
Know More
Mifepristone and misoprostol—the two drugs that are often jointly referred to as "the abortion pill"—are about as safe and effective as surgical abortion. In fact, more than half of abortions are now done with these medications. Research also shows that receiving abortion care via telemedicine is on par with getting it in person.
Feel Better
Many virtual reproductive health companies hope to expand access to abortion care for people who live in states where it's difficult to get an in-person appointment at a clinic. Besides, doing a medical abortion at home can minimize the burden of traveling to a clinic, taking time off work, and finding child care.

Harm Reduction Tools Are Key to Overdose Epidemic
More than 100,000 people in the U.S. died of drug overdose last year. The grim record was set in part due to the growth of fentanyl-laced drugs. The White House and some independent organizations are calling for the use of harm reduction tools—like improved access to fentanyl test strips and Narcan—to help curb these deaths.
