REI's Anniversary Sale Starts This Friday—Here's What I Have My Eye On
If you love exploring the great outdoors, I have a feeling you may have heard of REI. And whether you're hitting up some national parks this summer, or have yet to figure out exactly where you want to go, you should definitely check out the co-op's highly-anticipated Anniversary Sale for everything you could possibly need. It starts May 21 and runs through the end of the month, with discounts up to 50 percent off hiking, backpacking, running, climbing, and other outdoor gear.

While you can't see exactly what's on sale on their website until Friday, you can get a sneak peak by checking out REI's catalog. My eyes are peeled for the 25 percent off Hydro Flask water bottles and tumblers. And, as a runner who is just easing back into training again, I'm particularly excited for the $100 off all Garmin Fenix 6 GPS watches. The multi-sport watch tracks sleep, steps, and pool laps, and even advises you to take recovery—in addition to the basics I'll need to run laps like heart rate tracking, interval training, distance, and GPS.

And since all of a sudden it's summer in New York City, I plan to watch prices drop on REI Co-op clothing like these sleek joggers, a sun-protective dress, and hats (you can never have too many of those). REI also promises up to 30 percent off tents and 25 percent off sleeping bags, ENO hammocks, and camping furniture.

One last word of advice before the sale starts: While you don't need to be a member, you will get bonus perks when you sign up. The $20 fee to join gets you a lifetime membership, which includes discounts on rentals and bike and ski shop services.

So check out the sale this Friday, and let us know what catches your eye!

Take Your Relationship Lessons With You as We Return to Normal

Last night, I attended a group dinner with friends inside of a restaurant. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, this would not have been a groundbreaking experience worthy of a special newsletter to our Verywell Mind readers. But today, as we navigate through this "return to normalcy" transition, it feels like a major milestone.

From the Editors:
Caring for Your Mental Health in the Return to Normalcy
Every Wednesday throughout Mental Health Awareness Month, our editors will share insights from our new "Return to Normalcy" collection. The theme of this week is nurturing your relationships.

As COVID-19 vaccinations roll out and restrictions are lifted, we're in a state of transition that may impact your mental health in many ways. Verywell Mind is committed to guiding you through this uncertain time with helpful, trustworthy content that will support you no matter what you're feeling.

Nick Ingalls,
Senior Editor, Verywell Mind
When COVID-19 was declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, that date became our very own—much less funny—version of Groundhog Day, the classic time loop rom-com. Between working from home, travel limitations, and the general stay-at-home orders that followed, it felt for a long time like the calendar never really flipped to March 12.

And if, like me, you lived with your spouse or partner through it all, there are surely some mixed feelings about this memorable relationship experience as the country reopens and we return to a state of relative normalcy.

We had to work to create genuinely new experiences and new answers to "How was your day?" Whether it meant trying unique recipes or exercising together while gyms were closed, we had to cherish these small relationship "wins" wherever we could find them.

Through it all, spending this unprecedented crisis together demanded the kind of emotional availability and openness that doesn't come naturally to everyone. And now comes the difficult part—incorporating the hard-earned lessons of the pandemic into our relationship once things are back to normal, and figuring out what normal even means anymore.

As much as we all would like to forget the past 14 months, everything that we did to sustain our relationships in that time has the power to make us better partners and more aspirational versions of ourselves, whether you are coming out of the pandemic single, partnered, or married.
