Like most 20-somethings that have heard of Mejuri, I'm obsessed with simple gold jewelry—but also like most 20-somethings, I don't have solid gold-jewelry money. Then add in a higher likelihood to lose jewelry (what with all the traveling) and my overactive sweat glands…I had my work cut out for me. Luckily, I found not one but two brands that pass all my tests (contemporary and classic designs, affordable without being cheap, and resistant to water and sweat): Ana Luisa and Hey Harper. Ana Luisa is a Brooklyn-based brand selling gold-plated brass and sterling silver jewelry. My go-to everyday chains are the gold-colored Heritage set ($75). The two delicate necklaces are so light that I often forget I'm wearing them, and they match everything. Hey Harper is headquartered in Portugal and boasts PVD-coated stainless steel along with a lifetime color warranty. When I want to wear something slightly more eye-catching, I reach for the Bermuda set ($88). The pairing of a herringbone and rope twist chain adds some shine and texture without pulling too much attention from my outfit. While these pieces are gold-colored instead of gold-plated, I'm completely happy with my handful of chains from these two jewelry brands. After surviving several years, a pair of sweaty summers, and hundreds of showers without losing a hint of their original luster, I can vouch for them both.
