THE MYDOMAINE ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE
There's a reason the kitchen is called the heart of the home. Since we spend so much time there, having a clutter-free kitchen is a gateway to a more harmonized life. Here are 5 genius ways to get organized and make your kitchen your happy place again.
While clearing off your counters might be the fastest way to make a kitchen look organized, it's only a temporary solution. Leaving the area bare will only cause you to start piling things up again. Instead, pinpoint the key areas where mess tends to congregate and position a tray there to give small items a home.
Don't waste valuable cupboard space by storing your pots and pans. Use a decorative rack or series of hooks to relocate and display your bulkiest items, which will free up closed-door space for less attractive kitchen essentials.
If there's one thing we've learned from Instagram, it's that pantry organization is the new cool. Keep everything from dry pastas to baking essentials displayed in containers with air-tight lids to keep everything fresh.
A portable kitchen island is the Swiss Army knife of kitchen design. Particularly in a smaller kitchen, a cart on wheels can provide extra countertop space, more storage, and an additional spot to serve guests during a party.
When it comes to maintaining an organized kitchen, "adhere to the French notion of mise en place (everything in its place)," says Dana Cowin, a former Food & Wine editor. "In a chef's kitchen, the spoons never migrate. The pans are always where they were the last time you used them."
