| | WHAT WE'RE WATCHING | πΌ Trump made his first big personnel hire. Donald Trump's campaign manager, Susie Wiles, was selected by him to be his new chief of staff, making her the first woman to ever hold the post. The famously camera-shy Wiles is a quiet yet effective operator who, with Chris LaCivita, kept the campaign running smoothly — expect the same in the White House. | π Trump's transition team is taking shape. To lead the search for personnel, the president-elect tapped billionaires Howard Lutnick and Linda McMahon. McMahon heads the America First Policy Institute, which has spent the last four years preparing for another Trump presidency and has developed over 100 executive actions for Trump's consideration. | ✅ GOP senators indicate support for Elon Musk or RFK Jr. Before the election, President-elect Donald Trump had promised that Musk and RFK Jr. would play some sort of role in his administration. GOP senators are indicating they would not stand in their way for a nomination into Trump's cabinet, with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) saying that Trump should be given "a great degree of deference." | π₯ Trump chose an Iran hawk to help him staff the State Department. The president-elect asked Brian Hook, Trump's Special Representative to Iran in his first administration, to prepare lists of potential State Department staffers. Hook, who previously advocated for a "maximum pressure" campaign against Iran, signals that the administration won't consist solely of non-interventionist "Fortress America" thinkers. | |

THE EXECUTIVE | President Biden publicly congratulated Trump on his victory and said his administration would do anything it could to help with the transition. RFK Jr. will reportedly urge Trump not to nominate Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) for Secretary of State, saying he wants someone "less neocon."
|
| |
| | π️ CONGRESS | Dave McCormick (R) won his election in Pennsylvania, handing Trump a 53-seat Senate majority. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), along with the rest of the GOP's House leadership, have formally announced they will run for their positions again. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) told Upward News that the election was "a battle between good and evil" and that a Senate majority would give them the opportunity to get their work done.
