THE MYDOMAINE ORGANIZATION CHALLENGE
As Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw famously said, "I like my money right where I can see it: Hanging in my closet." You spend your hard-earned money and time perfecting your wardrobe; it deserves to live in a tidy environment. Here are 5 must-know tips for a well-organized closet you'd be proud to show off.
Organization expert Carly Waters tells her clients to hang up everything, even workout clothes. It's an easier system to maintain than drawers and allows you to see your entire wardrobe, so you don't go out and buy yet another black sweater.
Add a clothing rack outside of your closet if you're short on space. But instead of treating it as an extension of your closet, make it a décor piece by styling the rack to include your trendier pieces and newest purchases.
Treat yourself to a new set of matching, no-slip hangers, so you'll be more inclined to keep clothes off the floor. "Wood hangers are my favorite. I love a closet to feel like you are shopping at a boutique," says Waters.
Take a glance upwards in your closet and you'll likely see a ton of space that's not being utilized. Use those higher shelves to store shoes, bulky sweaters, or off-season clothing, and keep a step stool in your closet for easier access.
When your closet is a dark abyss, it's easier to toss in items without a second thought. Adding a few plug-in or stick-on lights will allow you to see everything in your wardrobe, and possibly keep you from letting clutter build up on the floor.
