Our latest collection of stories examines how design shapes our world.
| | | | | | TripSavvy Is Celebrating Architecture and Design All Month Long | When I visit a new place, I spend a lot of time just walking—noticing the tile trimming a Parisian doorway, the primary colors of the chairs flanking a Bangkok curry cart, or the graceful curves of a glassy New York skyscraper. While the minutiae of these details might bore some travelers, it's these architectural and design details that ultimately tell me the story of my destination. I think about the hands that crafted them, the architects that spent sleepless nights drafting renderings, and the people who occupy these spaces each day and ultimately gain a better understanding of the place I am visiting. We've dedicated our August issue to these stories, highlighting everything from the most architecturally significant building in every state to the best new hotels opening in 2022. Our features answer the pressing questions you may have wondered about (why does every new hotel have millennial-pink furniture or wacky wallpaper? Hint: Instagram), and some that you haven't (who designed Air France's chic navy uniforms?). And, on a more serious note, we've addressed the challenges historical properties encounter while renovating for travelers with disabilities and how the rise of hostile architecture is not only bad for the unhoused community—it's terrible for travelers, too. Finally, as you plan your trips this fall and beyond, check out our guides for taking great photos of famous landmarks and booking budget hotels with postcard-worthy views. | | | | | | | | You are receiving this newsletter because you subscribed to the Travel Today newsletter.
