Chef Meg Bickford of Commander's Palace Wants You to Start Cooking With Booze
Chef Meg Bickford has been executive chef at Commander's Palace since 2020, but she's served in various roles in the iconic institution's kitchen for 14 years. Going further back, Bickford has been cooking since she was a kid, watching Cajun and Creole flavors blend in her parents' kitchen. "Everybody in my family just knows how to cook. Things We're Reading, Loving, Pondering
Did you watch "Bad Vegan" on Netflix like everyone else this past weekend? If so, I highly recommend reading this story from Alicia Kennedy where she talks to writers and restaurant workers about Pure Food and Wine's legacy. Lately I've been really into any variations on a martini, so this story in Punch about MSG martinis is a must-read. I loved this tip in Epicurious for making a better pound cake (start with a cold oven!). And lastly, this story about whether or not it's ethical to "eat well" when people are starving all over the world was a little unhinged, but gave me a lot to think about.
