The French Caribbean island of Martinique has become increasingly popular with American travelers over the last few years. Like most places in the Caribbean, Martinique offers various amazing beaches, great hiking, and water activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, catamaran trips, and even dolphin watching. Outside of the usual, the island's culture also provides unique experiences to learn about its blend of influences derived from its African, French, and South Asian roots. Martinican food is a true reflection of the blend of cultures that make up the island nations, with Creole cuisine at the center of the food scene. The island is also widely known in the region for rhum; don't leave without trying the national drink, Ti' Punch, which can be found in almost any restaurant around the island. Meanwhile, accommodations in Martinique can vary from high-end establishments and family-run B&Bs to local Airbnbs that can be booked around the island.
Trending in Travel Get Inspired The Amazon Rainforest does not belong to just one country in South America—it spans Peru, Bolivia, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil. The latter provides some of the best access to the rainforest, with the city of Manaus serving as a gateway to the region itself. Take a boat or canoe out onto the Amazon River to spot the legendary river dolphins that frequent the area or spend a night at a local eco-lodge to experience the forest firsthand.
