Jameson's first visit to the U.S. will give Americans a little taste of Dublin.
Destination of the Day
Detroit, Michigan
If you haven't been to Detroit in a few years, please go back. Soon. With a new crop of boutique hotels, buzzy restaurants, and a thriving arts community, Michigan's largest city is the underrated cultural capital of the U.S. It would be a shame not at least to dabble a little bit in Detroit's history during your visit. Motown Museum is within the former studio of Motown Records, where the popular music genre (a combination of "Motor City" and "town") was born. If cars are more your thing, head to The Henry Ford Museum in nearby Dearborn, a living-history campus with indoor and outdoor spaces. Of course, you're going to want to dedicate at least some of your trip to viewing art, whether that's street murals at Lincoln Street Art Park in the North End neighborhood or wandering galleries at Detroit Institute of Arts.
And, like many Midwestern cities, Detroit's coolest restaurants are staffed by locals who cut their chops in other cities—cue New York City or Paris—and are now back home. Don't leave without trying a Coney Island hot dog, a signature local dish that became famous thanks to immigrants who passed through Ellis Island en route to the Midwest. Your Packing List
Layers are your friend. Ditch the open-toe shoes and resist the idea to go sock-less (unless it's a warm September day).
Wear a medium-weight jacket (it's okay to save a down jacket for the winter if you're layered underneath).
A hat feels great on a cool September or October night but a scarf and mittens may not yet be necessary.
Alberta's Waterton Lakes National Park happens to be the world's only park that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Biosphere Reserve, and International Peace Park. Situated roughly three hours from Calgary, the park draws outdoorsy types year-round thanks to numerous hiking trails offering epic views of the Rocky Mountains. In addition, opt to partake in water-based activity on the lake like canoeing and paddle boarding or play a round of golf at Waterton Lakes Golf Course. Anyone interested in local wildlife has the chance to spot everything from bighorn sheep to grizzlies.
