Dear Chase,
You know what they say.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
None of us can beat Chat GPT. It's too powerful.
Everyone's talking about it. It's lit the world on fire.
I STILL don't think that Chat GPT is going to take any jobs, because most business owners are too lazy to do the real work to make Chat GPT spit out good copy…
But any copywriter can use AI to level up their abilities.
The robot and the human must merge.
You must become friends.
Here are 3 ways that Chat GPT can help you become a better copywriter:
1. Fixing bad English.
This is something that I tried recently for one of my students. I currently work with a ton of people who live in non-English-speaking parts of the world.
I asked one of my students to send me copy that they'd written.
The copy wasn't "bad", but you can tell it wasn't native English.
I asked Chat GPT to take the copy that was written by my student, and turn it into "native-English" copy.
It worked.
It was the same sentiment, but it sounded way better.
This is a very simple thing that you can do if English is not your first language, but you want to write copy for an American company.
2. Angle ideas.
Writing copy really isn't that hard.
But the job of a marketer (which is what a copywriter should sometimes act as) is to come up with angle ideas that'll resonate with the audience that the client is trying to reach.
The best way to do this is to make sure AI knows what the product is, and the audience they're trying to reach, and it'll spit out pain points that you can use as angles in your emails or ads.
3. Train it to write like you.
So I blew my own mind with this one.
I showed Chat GPT how to write an "Alex In My Inbox" type email.
I told it to write another email in the style of Alex, but about another topic that I haven't written about before.
It was able to give me an email that I would write to you in like 30 seconds.
It was crazy.
You can take stuff that you've written before, tell Chat GPT to match the style, and then get it to write other emails in that style about other topics.
With a few style tweaks, you can really make this work for you.
I'm playing around with Chat GPT more and more, and it's starting to impress me.
Again, copywriting jobs aren't going anywhere. I still see multi-billion dollar companies hiring writers, and I'm still signing retainers left and right.
Chat GPT is just a tool to help you perform.
So, use it properly.
Yours truly,
AIex
