Before we dive into this week's edition, I want to share what my good friend and ecom legend, Nik Sharma, said about a company I'm advising: Retention.com — The secret tool that all the biggest performance-oriented brands use to increase their overall ad efficiency. Two weeks ago at GROW LA, one tool was on everyone's mind — Retention.com. The way it works, it sounds like something that you'd get by rubbing a magical DTC genie's lamp. In the last few months, I've been extremely bullish on SMS. 98% open rate, super creative, and typically converts surprisingly well. I've seen some screenshots of people getting a 24x ROI on their SMS credits, which means we need to be collecting more numbers. Here's how you can collect numbers from email. Example 1 is from Olipop, one of the DTC darlings. Their subject line was "Text us maybe" in reference to the Carly Rae Jepsen smash from like a decade ago. Good callback. They were able to get a designated long code (their own phone number) so you can text them to opt-in. Their USPs are great as well. Early access, discounts, etc. This is exactly what you should do. Example 2 is from Golde, a supplement company. For this one, they weren't able to get a designated long code because those are pretty hard to come by. Instead, they threw EVERY benefit at the audience, including a giveaway. This is more than enough to get people to sign up for SMS, because of how much there is for them to gain. Love this one. -

As you know, one of the biggest factors in the success of a DTC brand is trust. If you can establish trust, you become legitimate, and people take you seriously. One of the best ways to do this is to state that you don't cheap out on your product. The "Made In The USA" angle is great for expressing this. People are statistically more likely to buy if they know a product is made in their home country. Example 1 is from Bravo Sierra, a grooming brand. Their main selling point is that it's by vets, for vets. The America angle is ever-present, and it's something that people can really rally around. Not only have they established that trust of being made in America, but also exploiting the commonality of loving and living in the US. Example 2 is from Taylor Stitch, a massive DTC clothing brand for men. I believe that part of the reason they've gotten so big is because they don't compromise on quality at all. When everyone tries to cut costs by producing their clothing overseas, Taylor Stitch becomes the premium option by producing in the US. Even just a simple campaign like this one that states this value, as well as providing some social proof, is what makes them the best. Love it. - Segment(s):

DST — Daylight Savings Time — has a tendency to throw us off for a couple of days (or weeks) before we can adjust. Losing an hour of sleep is not easy. In order to help people get through it, send an email like the examples provided here! Example 1 is from TC1. This email is all about acknowledging the struggle of the DST transition, and providing a solution to help you get back to your routine right away. This is a super simple example that tells you exactly how you can do the same for your own audience. TC1 is one of those north star brands that has emails you should always be trying to emulate. They usually get things right, and you can follow this structure for a great campaign. Example 2 is from PYM, another supplement company. With this email, they went with the educational route which is extremely useful. This is more so for people who don't immediately notice that they're being affected by the time change, and they don't know why they feel the way they do. These supplements are "mood-boosting" supplements and work to reverse the effects of DST. I love this one, and the design is great! - Segment(s):
