What's up,
I hope this message finds you well.
I sent out a text yesterday to everyone that is subscribed to received REBEL8 texts but I wanted to take the time to use email as a way to expand on what I wrote exactly. I cringe every time I get a text that is multiple paragraphs and always assume I'm about to read some fucked up shit.
Anyways, this is what I wrote yesterday and it's not fucked up at all:
"A couple months back I decided I wanted to take a new approach to how REBEL8 moves. I don't want to be hella salesy. I don't want to bug you too much. I just wanna put out dope shit and let you know about it. You probably get a lot more texts from other brands, but it's not because I care any less. REBEL8 is personal and you are more than just a customer. Thanks for riding out with me for 20 years."
As REBEL8 rounded 20 years old last month I couldn't help myself from being reminiscent. The anniversary drop was dedicated to the past, of who we were, and not necessarily of who we are today or where we are going as a brand. It felt apropros to release that collection, and now take pause as I architect our future.
I've never taken a break from REBEL8 since 2003, so it felt really fucking weird to do that. It still feels weird honestly. I always talk about the importance of perspective and that is what I've been trying to achieve; like going to the eye doctor, testing different lenses and seeing which one will allow REBEL8 to be viewed in full clarity.
When you grow up being told to just put your head down and work it can build a strong worker, but not always a good visionary leader. My goal is to do a better job of combining both of these strengths.
REBEL8 is steeped in graphic history of tattoo imagery, skulls, graffiti, et alia. REBEL8 has always been a personal passion project, but I have failed at showcasing what I fuck with, what I'm into. Yes, I'm into tattoos, skulls and graffiti, but that's not all I'm into.
I'm not going to attempt to use words to describe my vision but I can't wait to show you this next chapter of REBEL8. I'm stoked. Can't wait!
Thanks for reading. Thanks for your support. As always, feel free to hit reply if you wanna get at me.
My very best,
Josh
