Reducing anxiety in dogs is crucial, especially in our busy and anxiety-provoking world.

Whether you have a puppy or a rescue dog, here are two effective strategies to help alleviate their anxiety.

Creating a Rewarding Environment with Treats

Always have treats on hand to reward your dog for calm behavior. This teaches them that being calm earns them treats, love, and praise. Train your dog to look at you when they're anxious or scared by rewarding them for choosing you over their initial reaction.

For example, if your dog dislikes being in the kennel, practice giving them rewards when they remain calm inside. Use commands like "good settle" or "nice calm" when giving treats to reinforce the desired behavior. If your dog gets anxious around other dogs during walks, train them to look at you when they see a dog by offering a treat.

This method helps reduce leash-reactivity and improves their overall response to other dogs.

 Using Sound Desensitization Techniques

Many dogs experience anxiety during loud noises such as thunderstorms or fireworks. To desensitize your dog to these sounds, utilize YouTube videos with gradually increasing sound clips. Start at a low volume and observe your dog's reactions.

Over time, increase the volume to help them become accustomed to the sounds. Additionally, expose your dog to other common noise triggers, such as crying babies, train horns, or ambulance sirens.

By introducing these sounds in a controlled environment, you can reduce their stress response when encountering them in real-life situations.

Support Their Gut Health

Furthermore, incorporating a high-quality gut health supplement or dog probiotic can significantly contribute to your pet's calmness. Studies have shown that probiotics can reduce anxiety and improve behavior in dog-reactive dogs.

Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome plays a pivotal role in regulating mood and stress responses.

Consult with your veterinarian to select the right probiotic or gut health supplement for your furry companion.
