I rarely talk about myself in this newsletter, but I'm stoked to share I was ranked as the #1 ecommerce marketer to follow by Shopify. I'm over the moon about this! You can see the full list here. | | Happy Wednesday! Here's what I'm seeing regarding email marketing and copywriting this week. This edition is full of tips and resources. So without further ado, let's dive in: | | Campaign Idea - The Free With Purchase Email: - Email Examples:
- The Free With Purchase Email Example 1
- The Free With Purchase Email Example 2
- Purpose/Context of Email:
Free With Purchase is one of my favorite discount structures. It's really the same thing as a BOGO, but we see that some audiences respond better to this framing. Try sending campaigns that look like this and watch the revenue roll in.
Example 1 is from Snuggle Bugz. The way this brand did it, they're selling a flagship product and including a supplementary item for free. The "free" item wouldn't be worth anything if you don't have the flagship item, so it makes sense to include it. They mention an $84 value, even though it probably cost them $12 to make. I dig this.
Example 2 is from Jack Henry. This one is different, because they're actually celebrating something. Get a free gift, BECAUSE we're turning 5. You don't need to do this, but it definitely helps justify why you're doing a sale in order to keep the value of your brand high. Instead of the upsell (like Snuggle Bugz did), they're doing more of a cross-sell which works just as well. Try this out! - Segment(s):
- Your engaged segment - Subject Line Idea:
- Free gift when you buy X
- Free gift inside...
- Free with your purchase of X - Preview Text Idea:
- It's a surprise!

I've found that showing the % off works better for lower priced items. 10% off a $25 item sounds better than $2.50 off. And showing the $ off works better for higher priced items. $100 off a $1,000 item sounds better than 10% off. | | No longer want to receive these emails? Unsubscribe.
