Happy Thursday! Here's what I'm seeing regarding email marketing and copywriting this week. This edition is full of tips and resources. So without further ado, let's dive in: | | Email Campaign Idea - The Press Email: - Email Examples:
- The Press Email Example 1
- The Press Email Example 2
- Purpose/Context of Email:
Press emails are the final boss of social proof that your "haters and doubters" have to defeat. When you shout out a well-known press outlet in your emails, you're telling your audience that there is NO reason that they shouldn't trust you. This is especially helpful if you're a new brand or you're selling a product that hasn't been "proven" yet. Here are two solid examples:
Example 1 is from Omsom. It's not mobile optimized or designed as well as some of our other favorite brands, but this content is great. I love the comic style, and it was a creative way to show off that CNN and The Food Network have co-signed them. This brand did exactly what I'd prescribe to them. They're not a traditional DTC-type product, so they need some extra proof to show people that they can be trusted. This campaign was a great example of this.
Example 2 is from Recess. Their emails are SO well done, and I rave about them all the time. This campaign is no different. Some big names in media wrote about them, and they combined this with a 10% off discount. Quick teachable moment: this email is an absolute ace. They combined two solid techniques to create an insane email. If you ever want an email to crush like this one (probably) did, combine a discount + social proof, or a discount + press, or a discount + a story, etc. A discount on its own is fine, but having a reason for a discount (another aspect that can share the spotlight with the discount) is what'll make an email REALLY resonate. Take this lesson from Recess.

This is honestly my favorite time of the year. While everyone else is slowing down, I'm speeding up. It's all about reflecting on the good and the bad from 2023 and working on doubling on the good while fixing and updating the bad. One big thing I'm leaning into right now is trying to line up as many talented people to work with starting in Q1. There are an insane amount of opportunities on my plate, and now it's just a matter of getting the right people into the right seats to get the tasks at hand done as quickly and efficiently as possible. I'm doing most of my hiring through MarketerHire for both freelance marketer and marketing assistant-type roles. I'm a huge believer in focusing on high-leverage tasks and offloading everything else.
