Dear Chase,
I coach a lot of people on starting their copywriting journey.
And I get some pretty good results for my students.
I think the reason for that is because I've been on the complete opposite end of the spectrum compared to where I am now.
I have been working as a freelance copywriter for 4 years, and I've had some success in my industry.
That hasn't always been the case.
Back when I started, I was a super anxious, young kid who was scared to take the jump.
I was terrified of rejection, terrified of looking stupid in front of a potential client, and was a bit daunted by the amount of "work" I thought I'd have to do in order to be successful.
This is something I wish I told myself back in the day in order to get results faster, and also stop worrying so much in the process.
A friend of mine has a saying. It goes:
"Everything falls apart when you stop having fun with it."
To me, that means that you sabotage everything in your life that you take too seriously.
For everything that you do that you stress over and try to make as perfect as possible, it always ends up backfiring on you.
The solution to starting your freelance journey quickly and easily is not gonna be inside a course or a YouTube video.
It's inside your own mind.
You can make anything unfun, fun.
Why do I know that?
Because you can do the opposite, too.
You can make anything fun, UNfun if you really want to.
You could be at a trampoline park (probably the most fun place on Earth) and find a way to make it unfun.
You could be like, "bro, what is this? I'm surrounded by 10-year-olds. What am I supposed to do, just jump up and down? This is stupid."
There are people in this world that are negative about everything, and there are people that are positive about everything.
How do you channel positivity into the beginning stages of a business?
It might not be easy, but just remember this:
1. The actions you're taking right now will put you on a path that is so much greater than you can imagine. You will not believe where you'll be in 12-18 months if you stick to it. That should excite you.
2. All of the people you're reaching out to are strangers. They don't know you. You don't know them. If they ignore your message and respond negatively, you've lost nothing. You might as well just shoot on everyone indiscriminately and just see who happens to respond. Have fun with your messages. Don't be too professional. If you give off a vibe that you're fun to work with and charismatic, you're more likely to get the client anyway.
I apply this to everything in life, Chase.
I think you do as well.
The coolest people I know are the ones that can turn anything into a fun experience.
That's a trait we can all adopt.
Yours truly,
Alex.
