Here's how to make your copy conversational: -
Use a Friendly Tone: Write as if you're speaking to a friend. Use simple, relatable language and avoid jargon.
-
Ask Questions: Involve your readers by asking questions that encourage them to think or respond, making them feel part of the conversation.
-
Use Personal Pronouns: Use "you" and "we" to create a sense of connection and inclusivity.
-
Be Concise: Keep your sentences short and to the point. Long-winded explanations can feel like a lecture.
-
Add a Personal Touch: Share personal stories or anecdotes to make your message more relatable and engaging. By making these adjustments, your copy will feel more like a conversation and less like a one-sided monologue. And thus, it'll perform much better.
| | Arguably the most important lesson I've learned: People perceive there to be (invisible) barriers in most situations in life. Once you can train your mind to understand this and see past the barriers, everything changes. A common one I faced early in my career was the divide between being an "entry" level employee and "senior" leadership. Everyone else who was junior like me was too afraid to befriend upper management. After I realized this, I wasn't smart enough to be afraid or I just didn't care, either which way, I became really close with upper management by being someone they could depend on for tasks within and beyond my scope of work. I ended up being able to manage a team and take on responsibilities I otherwise wouldn't have, had I not gone out of my way to prove myself to them. This has led me time after time to connect with the people I need and want for us to both/all benefit. And even today, I have some A-list people and celebrities in my circle that I hit up and just add value. I'll randomly think of an idea that can help one of their businesses and I'll drop them a note about the idea + how to execute it. And every time I see them in-person, they're coming to me for advice for things I've shared and things I'm an expert in. So… — Send that message. — Talk to that person. — Help someone who seems unhelpable. Because remember…. — The barrier really only exists in your mind, not in reality. Otherwise, you're only holding yourself back from achieving your potential. I hope this is helpful! | | Must Attend In-Person Event: I'm speaking at the #1 ecommerce event in September.
