Dear Chase,
Quick one for you today.
We talk a lot about the hard skills that a copywriter needs to have to be proficient at their job.
Research, story telling, empathy, brevity, creativity, etc.
But there are a ton of soft skills that go into it too.
A lot of times, your copy will be made or broken by literally just how you feel that day.
I get into slumps sometimes where I just don't feel like myself. And it comes through in my writing.
If I have low confidence on any given day, my copy will suck. If I feel like a loser for some reason, whatever I write will come out terribly and not convert.
This tip luckily won't just make you a more consistent writer, but this is also how you work your way out of a slump.
It's not exactly brand new info, but we need to be reminded.
You need to give yourself opportunities to feel like "the man" or "the woman".
You need to have a "I'm the freaking man (or woman)" moment.
How do you do that when your momentum is at zero?
It takes a lot of courage. Like 90 seconds of colossal courage.
But complimenting a stranger, sparking a conversation with someone you're attracted to, or even just doing some sort of generous act…
These are all ways for you to make yourself proud.
The quicker, the better.
All of the things I mentioned above are all things that just take a minute.
But it'll make you feel unstoppable for a second.
And that's all you need.
One piece of proof that you are "the man" or "the woman" is all you need to get your confidence back.
It makes a world of difference in everything you do, including your writing.
Confidence up, conversions up.
Try it if you need it.
Yours truly,
Alex.
