The fate of the Church hung in the balance on Oct. 7, 1571.
The Ottoman Empire was about to dominate Europe and squelch Christianity. A small Christian fleet, terribly outnumbered, met the Turks at Lepanto.
On the eve of battle, the Christians gathered in makeshift chapels aboard their ships. They knelt together with their spiritual weapons: their Rosaries. They entrusted their lives, the battle, and the fate of Europe to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Dawn broke and the two fleets clashed. Cannons roared. Men plunged into the fray.
The Christian soldiers rallied behind Our Lady. With every wave of prayer, they pressed on against the Ottoman ships. Finally, a cry of victory rang out. The Christian forces had won.
