It's easy to feel the whirlwind—election chatter, holiday planning, and end-of-year to-dos all competing for attention.   We'll keep this email brief. We wanted to share our expectations for the economy in 2025 and beyond with a second Trump presidency. Team Highlight - Fund Manager Event 🤙   Earlier this month, we hosted our very first Fund Manager event, bringing together an incredible group of talented fund managers from all over the country. We had an amazing time and can't wait to do it again!   Some highlights from the weekend: Another Trump Presidency: What's in Store for the Economy? 💵 In our email last month, we shared how we remain confident in our investment thesis, regardless of whoever is elected president, for a variety of reasons. That still holds true. But now what we know who will hold office, we can start to envision what the economy will look like in 2025 and beyond. Below is a great overview on the subject from the WSJ, and here are some of the highlights that sum up our shared viewpoint.   In a nutshell: Trump's proposed plans include higher tariffs (up to 60% on China and 10–20% on other countries) and tax cuts, both of which may affect inflation and interest rates.    But there are some other more nuanced potential outcomes: Tariff Implications: Higher tariffs could pose a greater inflation risk than in Trump's first term, potentially raising consumer prices by 0.9%, according to Morgan Stanley. Though this would be a one-off effect, with inflation eventually falling back to its original trend. However, factors like the possibility of importers absorbing costs, a stronger dollar, or the idea from some that Trump may be using tariffs as negotiation tools instead of planning to implement them in their fullness might reduce the overall impact. Tax Cuts: Extensions of 2017 tax cuts are a priority, which may cost an estimated $5 trillion over 10 years. Add to this Trump's other proposed tax cuts (like lower corporate rates) that could extend the deficit another $4 trillion. Deutsche Bank predicts this may offer a short-term economic boost, but JP Morgan expects it will also increase the deficit, potentially driving up interest rates. Regulations: Trump has proposed lighter regulation, for example of mergers and of the oil-and-gas industry. This may boost growth and business confidence and hold down inflation.
