The most powerful words, ever?
December 28, 2024 | | | The year is wrapping up, and here at Upward News, we're proud to say we got a lot right. Months before Biden was forced out of running for president, we predicted it. Back then, it was dismissed as a "conspiracy." | There are countless examples like this. Federal agents being present on January 6? We were censored for saying it was likely years ago, and now even the mainstream media admits it. The list goes on and on. | But as the year ends, the most productive thing to do is focus on what we got wrong. | It's a test of humility — and courage. | People who know me know I like to argue. But when I see I'm wrong — from the smallest to the largest argument — it's over. I admit I'm wrong. Right away. For all of my flaws, I take pride in this. | Our leaders — elected and unelected — never admit when they're wrong. Think about the migrant crisis, the economy, or the pandemic. If they admitted their mistakes instead of avoiding them, we'd solve our problems faster. | And the media? They're the worst offenders. These billion-dollar corporations only admit fault when they're sued for it. They've fueled billions in damages, like when their false police brutality narratives led to burning cities. | Pursuing the truth means making mistakes. Pursuing power means hiding those mistakes. | At Upward News, we admit when we're wrong. Not doing so disconnects us from reality. | | Here's my biggest mistake of the past year: | For months, I wrote extensively about how censorship would come roaring back before the election and how we'd see massive errors and delays like in 2020. | There was every reason to believe it. The European Union was fighting X for its lax content moderation, preparing to punish it with massive fines, even for activity in America. (Stunning, right?) Advertisers were boycotting. And all companies like Meta had to do to bring back the brutal censorship was flip a switch. But it didn't happen. | What we're passionate about is not our egos or the accumulation of power. We're only passionate about the truth. That's why whenever we make mistakes, we are excited to issue a correction at the top of the next day's newsletter. | And we don't hide our mistakes because this isn't about us. It's about getting you the truth. | | Ari | |
