Jack Sock Into Singles Final, Parenteau in for Mixed at PPA Red Rock Open |
Jack Sock continued his winning ways in Saturday's semifinal after securing a tightly contested 6-11, 11-5, 11-7 victory over third-seeded Connor Garnett. Following up on his big upset win over Federico Staksrud on Thursday, Sock has been playing some of his best pickleball as of late, especially on the singles court. Utilizing his movement to run around his backhand and rip forehands to both corners, Sock also showed a terrific backhand volley game in Saturday's semifinal, often closing the distance to reach the net and flick backhand volleys crosscourt. Sock will face second-seeded Hunter Johnson in Sunday's Championship match. After knocking off the 1 and 3 seeds, will Sock be able to complete a perfect run to the Championship?
Speaking of great performances this weekend, Catherine Parenteau and mixed doubles partner Christian Alshon look like a well oiled machine, earning great results as of late and developing as a team that can challenge for medals in any given tournament. Parenteau and Alshon faced a tough matchup today in Tyra Black and James Ignatowich, yet they secured a relatively comfortable 11-7, 11-5 victory. In a draw missing the dominant partnership of Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters, Parenteau and Alshon have a great opportunity to secure a Championship tomorrow when they take on Dekel Bar and Parris Todd. |
