While in the Philippines, one must visit the walls of Intramuros, which once encircled the then-city of Manila and dates back to the arrival of Spanish colonizers. The walls protected Intramuros from its many enemies and kept the city thriving for hundreds of years. Severely damaged during World War II, the walls have been mostly restored, and reconstruction efforts have repaired old buildings inside the walls and added new ones.
