Dear Chase,
Happy Hannukah bro. Or Merry Christmas. Whatever y'all celebrate.
My copywriting tip today comes from a television show.
Before I tell you what it is, I need you to promise that you're not gonna judge me.
A girl told me to watch it.
It's Gossip Girl.
And it's one of the greatest shows that I've ever watched.
One of the characters is an aspiring writer, and his mentor gives him some advice to strengthen his writing.
He tells him to go out and live life.
Get into trouble. Feel strong emotions.
Etc.
In the show, the character befriends this other guy who's a little bit crazy, and they end up in jail. It doesn't really matter.
But it got me thinking about how one's life experience can really make or break their ability to write and break down concepts.
I've always had decent writing structure and voice, but only in the last year has my writing become more inspiring, clear, and interesting to read.
It's not because I've been locked in my room practicing writing.
In fact, it's been the opposite.
I haven't done all that much writing this year.
I'm pretty sure Grammarly told me I wrote almost a million words in 2021.
It was 3000+ words per day for just about 300 days of the year.
I wrote more that year than most people will write in their whole life.
Yes, my writing skills were elite back then, but they're honestly better now.
Here's what the difference is:
I've spent so much time living this year.
Experiencing places and people.
Feeling intense emotions.
Challenging myself HARD.
Doing difficult things in business and in my personal life.
I've worked a ton on things that aren't related to business or writing.
And in the process, I've gotten to know myself so much better.
I see clearer.
I think clearer.
