Spartans,

When I was on Joe Rogan's podcast, I wanted to give out my email address on the show, as I do everywhere I go. "You're gonna get buried," Joe warned me.

And you know what? Out of millions of listeners, very few people ever sent me an email. But the ones who did…

Those are the people I want to meet.

Sharing my email address with anyone, taking every meeting, and saying yes to any physical challenge are habits I established long ago. When I first started my business, I had no idea where it would lead. But I said yes to opportunities, no matter how small or unpredictable they seemed.

My point is that putting yourself out there is a recipe for success.

This concept changed my life.

I used to wear this saying around my neck for years: "Success happens when 1,000 hours of preparation meet one moment of opportunity."

However, if you aren't out there, moving and preparing, you'll never bump into that one moment that matters most.

I meet people all the time – smart, young, ambitious – who say, "I don't know what I want to do yet. I haven't found myself."

What does that even mean? Life isn't a waiting room where you sit around and wait for inspiration to show up. Life is about doing. It's about taking action and figuring it out along the way.

There's no such thing as the "right time." It's always going to be raining, too cold, or too inconvenient. You're always going to feel out of shape, too tired, or too unprepared. You'll find a million reasons to sit on the couch instead of taking action.

But here's the truth most people won't tell you: Success doesn't wait for the perfect time. Success shows up for the people who start.

As you wrap up 2024 and prepare your mind and body for 2025, consider this resolution: Say yes more.

You'll be blown over when you see where this leads you in life. Plus, doing something beats doing nothing every single time.

Now, I'm not saying you need to swim in an alligator-infested lake at midnight. Even I know when to say no. But 99.9% of the time, my answer is yes.

Opportunities don't show up on a couch. Take the meeting. Respond to the email. Introduce yourself to that person you think is out of your league. Sign up for the race you're afraid of. Take the chance. Shake the hand. Say yes, even if you don't know where it's going to lead.

Here's to the hard way,

Joe

RESOLUTIONS THAT STICK

Research shows that only 9% of Americans who make resolutions complete them, with 23% throwing in the towel by the end of the first week, and 43% by the end of January. How do you make them stick?

According to Dr. Laura Pence, our chief mind doc here at Spartan, you want to connect your goals with your purpose, the "why" behind the how. "Having value-driven goals will help you dig deeper when motivation wanes," she says. Ask yourself:

1. What's the one thing I want right now?
2. What would making a change mean for me and others?
3. Can I do something to commit myself right now, rather than waiting for January 1?

You Ask, Joe Answers
Q: Hey Joe, As a parent, how do you balance your training schedule with family time?
- Emily R.

A: Hey Emily, the best way to do this is to wake up before the kids and get it done. Additionally, involve the whole family in physical activity throughout the week. Whether you're playing soccer in the backyard, hiking on the weekends, or doing burpees in the living room, you'll get your workout in and show your family how to connect through movement.
